In her work, Jennifer’s aim is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can explore the roots of what is causing emotional pain. She helps clients develop insight into themselves, build skills for managing life more effectively, and develop healthy perspectives. She believes people are capable of change, how ever challenging – and knows that through therapeutic support and positive changes, a person can create a life worth living and find more peace in the present moment.
Jennifer specializes in treating mood disorders, including depression and anxiety, as well as Bipolar Disorder. She provides Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to those struggling with personality disorders or to individuals who struggle to manage painful emotions. She assists clients through painful or stressful life transitions. She also supports clients in improving assertiveness skills and overcoming codependency.
Jennifer is originally from Cedartown, Georgia. Her education and training as a therapist began in Rome, Georgia at Berry College in 1996, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2000. Jennifer continued her education at Georgia State University, earning a Master’s of Professional Counseling in 2004 and an Education Specialist Degree in Professional Counseling in 2005. She has worked in various settings as a therapist; the majority of her post-graduate training took place at a psychosocial rehabilitation program at Northside Hospital, where she worked with a treatment team to treat individuals with severe, persistent mental illness, personality disorders, and substance abuse disorders. Jennifer has been in private practice since 2007. She is passionate about the therapeutic process and considers the profession a calling. Jennifer is currently training to become a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS) to be part of training and guiding future counselors as they work toward State licensure. She will complete her training by August of 2015 and looks forward to providing supervision to new therapists. In addition, her continuing education also focuses on trauma and grief counseling. Jennifer most recently practiced at Sheltered Cove.
Jennifer believes balance in life is fundamental to maintaining contentment and peace of mind. When she’s not working, she tries to balance time alone with time with friends and family. Jennifer enjoys reading (actual books from the library), exercising while listening to podcasts, practicing yoga, and binge watching whatever she finds on Netflix or AppleTV. She loves attending festivals and concerts and napping by the pool or being near any body of water. Jennifer also loves trying new restaurants and craft projects.
